In a bid to tap a larger share of the Indian outbound travel, Malaysian Government has introduced the Electronic Travel Authorisation Visa (e-visa) for a short visit to Malaysia. Currently, the e-visa facility is available to Indians residing in India only and is valid for a single journey stay of maximum 30 days in Malaysia for tourism purposes.

India is a significant contributor to the tourism economy of Malaysia. Last year, 7,22,141 Indian tourists visited Malaysia making it the 6th largest contributor to tourist arrivals.
“We are always trying to make travel to our country as convenient as it can get and the introduction of e-visa is a major step in that direction. We are confident that with this ease in visa process more and more Indians will now consider our country as a destination of choice for their next holiday,” .Mohd Hafiz, director, Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai said in a press statement.
The e-visa comes at a fee of around Rs 2,710 and can be obtained within 24- 48 hours with a validity of 3 months.
Tourism authorities across the globe are vying to get the attention of Indians as the Indian traveller is now getting increasingly noticed at global tourist destinations. India’s outbound travel, industry estimates suggest, is growing 15-20% every year. According to industry estimates, the number of Indians travelling overseas is set to rise to around 50 million by 2020.
